I am passionate about helping individuals achieve their goals, whether that is continuing to live at home or getting back to work.

I have worked both in the NHS, privately (as an occupational therapist and as a case manager) and I have been self employed.

Non-clinical Management Experience

I have extensive experience managing others. I facilitated four interprofessional learning groups of students whilst working in an acute hospital setting. The students were from many disciplines and we tasked with making a difference in their healthcare environment. I have supervised eight occupational therapy students to date. The most recent students (2023) completing a Masters in Occupational Therapy at University of Brighton in a role emerging placement where I was a long arm supervisor. I have supervised occupational therapy staff and support staff within the NHS from Band’s 3-7 (assistant to advanced occupational therapists). I have mentored an occupational therapy technician from starting an occupational therapy degree (London South Bank University) to becoming a qualified practitioner from 2005-2009. I currently supervise team leaders and teams of staff providing support to my clients as a case manager. I also coordinate large multidisciplinary teams to ensure the needs of my clients are met. I have completed the OT coaching course.

Research

I am interested in the evidence base for clinical practice. I reviewed 28 abstracts for the scientific committee for the World Federation Congress in 2021, 30 in 2025 and I am a reviewer for NIHR Alerts for clinical practice. I am a member of the Southern Council for Allied Health Professionals Research (caphr) and The Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) research connect; regularly attending the research café. I am the research innovation and development lead for the RCOT Specialist Section – Independent Practice and I currently review the two annual awards. Prior to this, my role was the webinar lead and I regularly invited guests to provide webinars to enhance practioners practice. In 2022, I completed thematic analysis for the MOTH project which investigated healthcare professionals opinions of a digital tools to assist people with long term conditions, this has now been published. My recent research experience has been completing qualitative analysis of textual data from a National survey, My Age which I finished in June 2023. I also completed empirical research for my MSc, Post Graduate Diploma and BA hons.

I am a compassionate Occupational Therapist with over 20 years of experience within NHS inpatient settings, including acute and community rehabilitation.

My clinical practice is grounded in holistic assessment and the development of personalised treatment plans in collaboration with patients and their families, aiming to promote independence, safety and wellbeing. I am a methodical organised therapist who enjoys seeing things through to completion.

About Catherine

I am a highly dedicated Senior Occupational Therapist with a 20 plus years record of experience delivering exceptional, patient-centred care within a variety of demanding NHS environments. I have specialised in acute trauma and elective orthopaedics, general medicine, and complex rehabilitation. I excel at managing multifaceted caseloads and developing holistic treatment plans that work towards patient goals.

I am a proven mentor, adept at supervising and developing junior staff and students, and have actively contributed to service improvement initiatives, including clinical audits and pathway development, to enhance both patient outcomes and departmental efficiency.

Non-Clinincal Management Experience

I am passionate about supporting others to grow and succeed. I actively enjoy fostering the development of my colleagues and have extensive experience in both staff and student supervision, including taking on the role of student coordinator. I bring a supportive, team-focused approach to my deputy leadership responsibilities, focusing on effective workload prioritisation and delegation.

Beyond my direct team leadership, I am committed to improving our service as a whole. I have contributed to service development projects and clinical audits, and I thrive on collaboration within the multidisciplinary team. My professional skills are anchored in clear, compassionate communication with patients and their families, as well as detailed report writing. This commitment to engaging with the wider professional community is also reflected in my experience of helping to organise, and presenting at, the regional COTSST&O conference.
